Renovations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City

Mexico City is preparing for the arrival of thousands of visitors for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Among the renovation projects underway are upgrades to the Azteca Stadium, the transformation of the access bridge, the reorganization of businesses on public roads, complete lighting of the area, and the recovery of the pedestrian connection of Acoxpa.

Additionally, renovation and modernization work is being carried out at the Cetram Huipulco, the construction of a semi-massive bike parking facility to complement the bicycle lane on Calzada de Tlalpan, the construction of a ramp for a pedestrian bridge, and the installation of informational signage for transportation systems. At the Cetram Universidad, sidewalks will be expanded and improved, modal connections will be enhanced, safe pathways will be established, and the urban image will be homogenized.

At the Cetram Tasqueña, security will be strengthened, transportation connections will be improved, crossings will be adapted, businesses will be integrated, and accessible public spaces will be created. Furthermore, a new Trolebús has been announced that will connect several Metro stations with the Azteca Stadium, called 'Ruta Silvestre de Los Pedregales'.

"It will connect more than 15 popular neighborhoods between Tlalpan and Coyoacán, and well, they will be electric trolleybuses," Clara Brugada mentioned at a press conference. The route of the new Trolebús will run from Metro Universidad to the Modal Transfer Center (Cetram) of Huipulco, benefiting 15 neighborhoods, including San Lorenzo Huipulco, Pueblo de Santa Úrsula Coapa, Ajusco III, among others. The route will take place along avenues such as Delfín Madrigal, Aztecas, Nezahualpilli, and Santa Úrsula. The new Trolebús line is expected to offer correspondence with stations of Line 12, facilitating connectivity.

The Trolebús that will arrive at the Azteca Stadium will be different from other lines, as the buses will be pink and will have names related to local animals. This project aims to improve the mobility of spectators attending the matches to be held at the Azteca Stadium during the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
